COURSE OBJECTIVES

The degree in Tourism aims to provide future graduates with academic and professional skills in the field of Tourism, specifically in the field of the various impacts of tourism and service provision.

These competences will promote the fast and complete insertion in the active life of the graduate in Tourism, through the formatting of a profile of highly qualified professional and able to face any challenge in this area of activity.


COMPETENCIES TO BE ACQUIRED

It is intended to provide Tourism graduates with fundamental skills to act on the various fields and activities, namely:

  • Know the concepts and theories that underlie tourism;
  • Master the functional codes and the dynamic interaction processes of all agents integrated in the tourism dynamics (tourist, host community and economic agents);
  • Know the organizational structures of tourism (national and international) and apply the directives issued by it;
  • Being able to integrate into different types of institutions and tourism businesses and respective modes of organization, management and specific fields of action;
  • Have the ability to intervene in tourism development projects;
  • Know the organizational models of the different types of enterprises/economic groups related to tourism;
  • Know and understand the operation of the different areas of tourism businesses;
  • Know the main management theories and be able to apply them according to their suitability for specific situations;
  • Master the different types of tourism operations;
  • Understand and be critically aware of the best practices regarding moral, ethical, environmental and legal guidelines.

  • Direction/Coordination of the tourism sector in official organizations of Tourism;
  • Managers in Tourism Consulting and Planing Companies, Tourisitic Animation, Touristic Transports companies and Travel Agencies;
  • Tourist Resort Managers;
  • Managers and Coordinators in Companies and Associations of National, Regional and Local Development of the Tourism Sector;
  • Tour Operators;
  • National Guide-Interpreter, Museum, Monuments, Historical and Cultural Guides.
