Aims, Skills and Learning Outcomes

Descriptive summary of course unit
This course unit aims to provide the student contact with the French language, in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for level A1 (basic user) directives.
It intends to provide basic communicative competence in French to accomplish simple and familiar actions, both written and oral, as well to favour the contact with sociocultural aspects in a professional context.


Objectives and expected learning outcomes
This course unit enables the student to efficiently interact in simple situations, on family subjects and in specific professional contexts so as to answer adequately to immediate communicative needs.

These are the main objectives of this course unit:

1. Acquire vocabulary for everyday communication in French: the development of oral and written skills.
2. Show knowledge about the business environment, applying them in oral and written communication
3. Communicate in business contexts, related to the different professions in the area, applying them in oral and written communication


Skills to be developed
At the end of the semester, the students will be able to
- understand a native speaker who expresses himself/herself in a clear way with a normal debit
- interact fluidly, using a simple lexical repertoire and basic grammatical tools about familiar subjects in professional contexts
- write simple texts as notes and reports; descriptions; letters/emails;
- compare sociocultural and professional events

Demonstration of the syllabus coherence with the curricular unit's learning objectives

In order to fulfil objective 1, Acquiring everyday communication vocabulary in French: the development of oral and written skills, the topics and subtopics listed in 1 and 2 will be worked on. Objective 2, Showing knowledge about the business environment, applying them in oral and written communication, corresponds to topic 3.
In the same sense, objective 3, Communicating in business contexts, related to the different professions in the area, applying them in oral and written communication, covers contents 4 and 5.

Learning Methods

The methods adopted presuppose the student's active participation in various learning tasks (oral and written), oriented in order to coordinate individual work, pair work and collective work. The methodology based on the communicative method aims at the rapid development of a linguistic autonomy acquired through the execution of simple concrete tasks, related to the daily life and to the professional world.

Continuous Assessment

Two written tests: 35 + 35% 
Oral presentation: submission of the plan (E-Learning): 10%
Oral presentation: 20%

Under General Regulations:

a) All students will register their presence during lessons and, if their absenteeism rate is over 30% of the total number of lessons for each course unit, they will automatically be transferred to the final assessment modality of the regular season.
b) In written tests and evaluation, a minimum score of 7.5 (seven point five) values is required.
c) In case students miss or obtain less than 7.5 in the written tests or the written projects, they will be automatically transferred to Final Assessmen of the regular seasont
d) In case students miss or obtain less than 7.5 in the second written test, they may only be subject to the Appeal season for tests.
e) All the written assessments included in the evaluation (reports, case studies, etc.) must be submitted through the Turnitin data base, available at the eLearning Platform. It would be accepted a similarity rate of less than 30%.

The first objective,1. Acquire vocabulary for everyday communication in French: the development of oral and written skills, will be achieved through the reading and comprehension of authentic texts, involving the elaboration of exercises.
Objectives 2., Show knowledge about the business environment, applying them in oral and written communication, and 3., Communicate in business contexts, related to the different professions in the area, applying them in oral and written communication, will be achieved through the oral expression and written production of texts that simulate the professional context.
