Aims, Skills and Learning Outcomes

Descriptive summary of the curricular unit

This course unit aims to provide to the student a contact with the French language, in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for level A2 (basic user) directives.

Objectives and expected learning outcomes

This course unit will enable the student to efficiently interact in simple and daily professional situations, which demand quick and appropriate answers.
The main objectives are:
1. To understand familiar words and basic phrases
2. To read correctly basic phrases such as news, informative notes, simple professional documents, short articles, etc.
3. To write simple texts, such as professional notes, messages, emails to request information, to make complaints, etc.

Skills to be developed

At the end of the semester, the students should be able to

1. Understand a native speaker who expresses himself clearly, in a normative and informal record, with a normal to fast debit;
2. Interact fluidly, using a lexical repertoire and simple grammatical tools, on subjects and in familiar professional contexts; describe in a simple way their training, the surrounding environment and also refer to issues related to immediate needs.
3. Communicate in simple tasks and routines that require a direct exchange of information on familiar and usual matters;
4. Produce simple written texts such as notes and brief reports; descriptions; letters/emails;
5. Compare sociocultural and socio-professional phenomena and aspects

Demonstration of the syllabus coherence with the curricular unit's learning objectives

The syllabus articulates the indicators of the competences to reach the level A2 of CEFR of the Council of Europe and the characteristics of the profile degree. It will enable the student to acquire specific knowledge and to develop communication skills in order to do simple and daily tasks which demand direct exchange of information on professional matters. The student will be able to ask for information, organise a meeting, talk about one¿s and others¿ personality and tastes, explain what h/she did by using the passé composé verb tense and simulate a job interview.

Learning Methods


The adopted methods presuppose the active participation of the student in several learning tasks (oral and written), directed in way to coordinate individual work, work in pairs and collective work. The communicative and action oriented approach seeks the fast development of a linguistic autonomy through the execution of simple concrete tasks, related with the everyday life and the professional world.

Continuous Assessment


Two written tests: 35 + 35%
Oral presentation: submission of the plan (E-Learning): 10%
Oral presentation: 20%

According to the General Regulation:

a) All students will register their presence during lessons and, if their absenteeism rate is over 30% of the total number of lessons for each course unit, they will automatically be transferred to the final assessment modality of the regular season.
b) In written tests and evaluation, a minimum score of 7.5 (seven point five) values is required.
c) In case students miss or obtain less than 7.5 in the written tests or the written projects, they will be automatically transferred to Final Assessmen of the regular seasont
d) In case students miss or obtain less than 7.5 in the second written test, they may only be subject to the Appeal season for tests.
e) All the written assessments included in the evaluation (reports, case studies, etc.) must be submitted through the Turnitin data base, available at the eLearning Platform. It would be accepted a similarity rate of less than 30%.

Demonstration of the coherence between the teaching methodologies and the learning outcomes

The learning objectives of the UC are organized as described in the level A2 of the CEFR, namely the understanding and communication competences. The teaching methodologies, based on the active approach of the teaching-learning of languages, serve those objectives by promoting the application of explicit linguistic contents when the tasks are performed (communicative competences).
