HIGHER PROFESSIONAL TECHNICAL COURSE

FOOD & BEVERAGE

The aim of this course is to train senior catering and beverage professionals who, autonomously or with guidance, are able to lead, coordinate and control the activities and operations of food and beverage services, whether or not integrated into hotel units, guaranteeing quality of service, optimisation of resources and maximisation of business profitability. The Restaurant and Bar areas are studied in an integrated way, incorporating the best international practices and experiences and a growing closeness to the needs and expectations of the business market. It provides the labour market with specialised professionals with the skills to manage companies in the restaurant and beverage sector.

SKILLS

Students should be able to:

  • Coordinating and ensuring the efficient use of information systems to support restaurant and bar management
  • Communicating in English and Spanish with foreign interlocutors
  • Identify and implement different strategic promotion and marketing options
  • Defining strategy, business differentiation factors and positioning in relation to the competition
  • Ensuring compliance with quality, safety and food hygiene standards
  • Communicating and interacting with customers, suppliers and other employees of the catering establishment
  • Apply rules and protocols when choosing wines, based on their flavour characteristics, to accompany dishes

Scholarships & Funding

  • Holders of a high school diploma or equivalent

 

  • Over 23: AThose who have passed the special tests designed to assess the ability of those over 23 years of age to attend higher education, taken for the course in question

 

  • Holders of a Technological Specialization Diploma (DET), a Higher Professional Technical Course Diploma or a Higher Education Degree, who wish to requalify professionally.

Who can apply to this course: 
- Holders of a high school diploma or legally equivalent qualification;
- Holders of a Level 4 vocational high school course;
- Holders of a technological specialisation diploma (CET);
- Holders of a higher education degree who wish to retrain;
- Those who have passed the specially appropriate tests designed to assess the ability of people over 23 to attend higher education;
 

  • Traced copy of the front and back of the identification document (ID, Citizen's Card, or Passport), with due consent of the holder, for data validation;
  • Certificate stating the level of academic and/or professional qualification;
  • Curriculum Vitae;
  • Other documents you consider relevant to the application;
  • Copy of the Vaccination Card, with the tetanus vaccine, with due consent of the holder, for data validation.

 

If candidates do not fulfil the entry requirements, they can acquire them by passing an entrance exam, whose knowledge and skills corresponds to the level of high school level in the area(s) relevant to each course. The entrance exam is written, or written and oral, and is organised for each course or set of courses. The ability assessment test for candidates who have not completed high school is written, or written and oral, under the terms set out in the regulations for ISAG's Higher Technical Professional Courses.

The ability assessment test is based on the knowledge and skills corresponding to the level of high school, in one of the areas defined for the course:

  • Higher Technical Professional Courses in Accounting and Taxation/ Management Informatics/ Industrial Management
    • Economics or Maths or Portuguese
  • Higher Technical Professional Courses in Tourism Management/ Digital Marketing / International Trade and Management/ Food and Beverage
    • Economics or English or Portuguese

- A scholarship is an annual cash payment to help cover the costs of attending a course or doing a compulsory professional internship, awarded by the state on a non-repayable basis whenever the student's household does not have an adequate minimum level of financial resources.

- The conditions for awarding scholarships are defined in the legislation currently in force, namely in the Regulations for Awarding Scholarships to Higher Education Students, available at www.dges.gov.pt.

 

- Scholarships can be awarded under the social support system for attending courses at higher education institutions to students enrolled in:

- Professional higher technical courses;

- Degree courses;

- Master's degree courses.

- Scholarships can also be awarded to bachelor's or master's degree holders who, within 24 months of obtaining their degree, are undertaking a professional traineeship for the exercise of a profession.

 Those interested can apply for the Porto de Conhecimento scholarships if, cumulatively:

  • Meet the conditions for access to higher education and the course they are applying for;
  • Hold a secondary education course or equivalent qualification, or have passed the specially appropriate tests designed to assess the ability of those over 23 to attend higher education;
  • Are beneficiaries of support within the scope of school social action or have an equivalent economic and financial situation;
  • Reside in the city of Porto or have obtained their higher education qualification at an educational institution in Porto.
  • Applicants for the Porto de Conhecimento scholarship may not be enrolled in a degree course or higher.

 

Applicants for the Porto de Conhecimento scholarships must send their application form (template available at www.porto.pt) to educacao@cm-porto.pt by August 11th, together with a copy of the following documents:

  • ENES form or the result of the assessment of ability to attend higher education for those over 23;
  • Proof of status as a beneficiary of school social action or a statement of income and household composition issued by the Social Security;
  • Proof of tax residence.

 

  • Applications will be assessed by a technical team from the Municipal Directorate of Education, which will rank the candidates according to the scholarship sought, in accordance with the criteria set out in the following article;
  • The results of this ranking will be communicated to the candidates by September 30th.

 

For the 2024/2025 academic year, the Consuelo Vieira da Costa Foundation grants:

  • Full exemption from the payment of tuition fees for attending a higher vocational technical course (CTeSP) to 5 candidates;
  • Full exemption from the payment of tuition fees for undergraduate courses to 4 candidates (degrees in Tourism, Hotel Management, Business Relations and Management);
  • Full waiver of master's degree tuition fees for 2 candidates;
  • Full exemption from application, registration and enrolment fees until completion of the course;
  • Full exemption from the fee for issuing the degree completion certificate.

- ISAG's CTeSP Scholarship is awarded to the top 3 students from the partner high school according to ISAG's selection criteria.

- Conditions: 50% reduction in tuition fees for the 1st year and subsequent years if the student passes the 60 ECTS that make up the curricular year.
