Digital solutions have the potential to transform healthcare systems and education, delivering better health outcomes, services and quality through technological advances. It is expected that, in ten years' time, 75 per cent of patients will use digital health services, particularly for wellbeing management, access to healthcare and chronic disease management. Digital health is currently the vehicle for innovation and transformation in the health sector. The pandemic crisis that the world has faced has accelerated all these digital technologies, demonstrating the importance of new tools such as telehealth, precision medicine, predictive medicine, data processing using artificial intelligence, and a continuum between the physical and the digital in the provision of patient care throughout the life cycle. We now know that more and more resources will be needed to treat an increasingly ageing population, to focus on prevention and health promotion, but that, on the other hand, resources will be increasingly scarce. It is precisely in this challenge that digital health takes centre stage, providing new formats for delivering care, enhancing the patient experience and facilitating the work of healthcare professionals. The collection of PREMs and PROMs, which respectively stand for Patient-Reported Experience Measurement Mechanisms and Patient-Measured Outcomes, is fundamental to building value in healthcare, and making digital health tools available to patients is essential for this.
